The Tri-Central Lady Trojan Soccer team defeated Wapahani 3-1 Wednesday evening to advance to the semi-final round of Sectionals.
After an early goal from the Warriors, Tri-Central was able to even the score with a goal from senior captain Brogan Terry on a pass from fellow classmate Courtney Zickmund. “Brogan’s goal was huge for us for two reasons,” Head Coach Kyle Etherington stated, “It got us energized as a team and it served as the culmination in her long road back to playing shape after multiple injuries throughout her career.”
Tri-Central from there scored another goal near the end of the first half to take the lead at halftime as freshman Jessica Ripberger netted her second score in two games after receiving a throw-in pass from senior Taylor DeLong. From there the teams battled equally in the second half with the game still in question as Tri-Central juniors Erin Miller, Madi Brewer, and Shannon Brewster kept the defense flowing smoothly.
However, Terry once again came to the rescue as she dribbled toward the goal drawing the defense which allowed sophomore Nichole Hugley to slip into the open space to receive the senior’s pass and convert on a left-footed shot that put the Warriors away for good.
“Each game this team continues to improve and play as a team,” Etherington concluded, “There is no better time than sectional to put it all together and we are elated to be moving on.”
The Trojans will next take on the host and number 5 ranked Hamilton Heights Huskies Thursday evening at 7 PM.
